Emerging Trends

Everyone has their own vision of a dream home, whether it’s a ranch, Spanish, modern, contemporary, mid-century, colonial, or Tudor. The National Association of Home Builders predicts we’ll see creative reimaginings of these styles in the near future. Expect hybrids, like Spanish homes with a contemporary twist, and warmer, more inviting interpretations of the once-boxy contemporary style.

We’ll also see fresh takes on familiar materials. For example, brick will evolve into lighter, more airy forms with new design purposes. Dynamic elements, such as movable screens that shift with the sun, and narrow windows that offer both light and privacy, will also gain popularity.

Sustainability, of course, will continue to grow in importance. With more eco-friendly products on the market, it’s becoming easier for people to incorporate sustainability into their homes. One exciting trend is the rise of 3D-printed homes, especially in areas like Austin. I’ll be visiting a 3D-printed neighborhood soon to share more on this innovative development.

Ultimately, people crave variety and a true sense of place in their homes. The days of cookie-cutter developments are fading, and homebuyers are demanding more options. Hopefully, developers are taking note.
