5 Best Places to Spend Labor Day in Dallas

From homemade brews to barbecues, here are five incredible ways to celebrate Labor Day weekend in Dallas
Deep Ellum Mimosa Walk

For the fourth year in a row, Dallas’ Deep Ellum neighborhood is sponsoring a mimosa walk on Sunday, September 1st. Running from noon to 3 p.m., this self-guided experience invites guests to shop locally and enjoy the Texas sun. In Deep Ellum, creativity is celebrated at every corner store, so grab a glass at all the participating shops and enjoy browsing the art, jewelry, home decor and more. Tickets are available for purchase online for $27.

Bedford Blues & BBQ Festival

This three-day event celebrates two things that Texas does best: blues and barbecue. Bedford City Hall will be surrounded by delicious barbecue—BBQ Triple Play competitors from across the nation will cook to win $20,000 worth of prizes—and Grammy-winning blues, with Boz Scaggs headlining the festival. A variety of ticket options are available for guests who prefer an elite experience, but general admission tickets to the concert are free. With tasting events, food vendors, art, and music, the Bedford Blues & BBQ Festival is a whole weekend of fun.

United Rodeo Professional Association (UPRA) Rodeos

At the State Fair of Texas between August 30th and 31st, a two-night rodeo sensation is sweeping through Dallas. Fair Park Coliseum will be packed as high-energy riding returns to the State Fair for the first time in 23 years. Children under seven are invited to participate in the Mutton Bustin event, where they will get to ride a rodeo lamb. General admission tickets for rodeo events are available for purchase online. Premium box seats for both nights can be reserved for a VIP experience that includes drink tickets, VIP parking, and access to an exclusive bar and lounge.

Relax on Bachman Lake

Bachman Lake is 205 acres of beautiful blue water. This urban oasis allows you to be united with nature—the perfect escape for a relaxing long weekend. Bachman Lake is ideal for fishermen looking for blue catfish or large mouth bass, but for visitors who aren’t fond of watersports, the park includes a five-kilometer paved hiking and biking trail as well as several picnic areas and a pavilion that can be reserved in advance by calling ahead.

Labor of Love Homebrew Festival at Deep Ellum Brewing Co. Craft beer calls Deep Ellum home with the eighth annual Labor of Love Homebrew Festival. Sponsored by Deep Ellum Brewing Co., the event runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday, September 1st. Although guests must be 21 or over to sample beer, children and dogs are also welcome to attend. For the price of a $20 ticket that doubles as a Labor of Love membership, visitors can enjoy an evening filled with live music, local food trucks, and seemingly endless craft beer.
