5 Up-And-Coming Dallas-Based Clothing Designers

These innovative artists focus on texture, color, pattern, and shape. Keep an eye on all five of these up-and-coming designers who wear Dallas proudly

1. Memory Jora with Mory Jay

In 2017, Memory Jay launched Mory Jay to celebrate the African woman. As creative director, the Zimbabwean designer infuses her clothes with a sense of identity. Her pieces are developed with two key factors in mind: fit and construction. To Jay, fashion operates as a facet of expression, and to achieve this, her pieces are tailored and structured to look like a seamless extension of self.

2. Lora Cook with Brimm

A perennial hat-lover, Lora Cook followed her passion from Dallas all the way to Indiana to study the art of millinery. With only one year of formal experience, the otherwise self-taught Cook is crafting hats of her own with her line Brimm, and the results are stunning. Currently, her hat designs are primarily custom-ordered by clients so that she can tailor the design precisely. Her hats are inspired by the Old West, sometimes featuring feathers or decorative bands. Cook firmly believes “there’s a hat for everyone,” and her designs hope to reflect individuality with a touch of southwestern flair.

3. RKJ

Ronald Keith Jones cultivates a unisex style that emphasizes modern simplicity. This light-handed approach to fashion encourages self-love by going back to the basics. His online boutique showcases purchasable pieces that primarily utilize subdued colors and traditional silhouettes. The company aims to provide timeless, high-quality apparel while setting new fashion standards and anticipating trends.

4. Laisa Macias with LALA

Laisa Macias has quit making excuses and started making showstopping designs. After learning how to sew as a girl from her grandmother, Macias fell in love with fashion and hasn’t looked back. Her pieces pull inspiration from the insatiable saturated hues of her Spanish heritage, and rich colors are prominent throughout her work. Macias also released a line of tops with “Peligrosa” sprawled across the chest, which translates from Spanish to “dangerous.”  Her clothing designs similarly inspire women to feel fearlessly—some might even say dangerously—empowered.

5. Kenya Carter with K. Nicole

Kenya Carter created K. Nicole to motivate women to feel empowered by providing them with fashion that encourages self-expression and self-appreciation. Her designs often preen inspiration from vintage styles and combine them with more modern accents. Pieces from her line are available to purchase online
