As the state of Texas copes with an onslaught of COVID-19 cases, the community is relying on each other more than ever before. By following health and safety regulations to social distance and minimizing shopping to only the essentials, life in Dallas has changed tremendously since the outbreak began. Luckily, we are fortunate enough to be surrounded by generous and selfless friends and neighbors who are serving our community through this difficult time. Here are nine local businesses who continue to support the Dallas area. 

 

Cultivar Coffee

This Dallas coffee shop knows coffee brings people together, and they are determined to continue this tradition despite the ongoing health crisis. To support the community, they are offering $1 espressos and small drip coffees for service industry workers, while all other coffee selections are available to service industry workers for 50% off. Whether you’re craving a cortado or an iced chai, Cultivar Coffee is happy to serve the community. To protect the safety of both workers and patrons, menu items are available strictly by curbside service, but their East Dallas location is open seven days a week so they can serve our city’s hardest workers. Cultivar Coffee is also dedicated to using sustainably grown coffee and prepares it with meticulous care so that guests can enjoy the best cup every time. 

Dallas Soap Company

20% of proceeds from all retail sales from Dallas Soap Company will benefit restaurant servers who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19. This portion of the proceeds will be donated for at least two weeks in the hopes of providing relief for displaced workers during this crisis. Dallas Soap Company sells a wide selection of artisanal soaps made with natural ingredients, such as their lavender honey soap and milk and honey goat milk soap with oatmeal. If you need a new loofah soap, bubble bath, or sugar scrub, Dallas Soap Company has everything you could dream of. Additionally, all online orders over $25 include free domestic shipping, so their finely-crafted soaps can be delivered safely to your door. 

Flea Style

Flea Style is a fresh new take on the traditional flea market. Founded by Brittany Cobb in 2009,  this shop caters specifically to Dallas’ interest in both handmade and vintage goods. Although their brick and mortar storefronts have closed to protect both employees and shoppers, Flea Style is available to browse online for easy access to vendors and artisans. The company has matched every dollar from online purchases during the month of March and is donating that money to individual artists and vendors whose goods were sold in Flea Style stores in the last year. With online options from fashion apparel like 1970s original band t-shirts to homewares such as handcrafted chenille pillows and handcrafted apothecary goods like bath soaks and sage bundles, shoppers will still be able to buy the products they love from small businesses while staying safe at home. 

Ellen’s

One of Dallas’ most beloved brunch spots is making a huge effort to support the community. Gift cards are available to purchase online, and it’s a gift that gives twice. Whether you save the gift card for a rainy day or offer it to your friends, the money from every gift card purchase during the outbreak will be used to purchase food of an equal amount to donate to vulnerable citizens. It’s this kind of earnest and thoughtful giving that is fueling Dallas during this difficult time. Additionally, although tableside service has been restricted, Ellen’s is continuing to provide to-go orders so that you can enjoy brunch all day every day from the comfort of your own home. Their sizable menu puts a spin on traditional favorites, like grits benedict, pancake pot pie, and chili and eggs. They’re offering everything from French toast to blackened salmon all day long, starting from when their doors open at 7 AM, so you can enjoy the food you love whenever you want it. 

Madgal Creations

This local contractor hasn’t forgotten that pets are an important part of many Dallas families. Known for their handcrafted wood furnishings and special emphasis on customized kennels, Madgal Creations is providing free pet food holders and bowls with every order, and delivery is now free for every order within 60 miles. Recent constructions include indoor kennels, installed pet gates, and even cornhole sets. The Biscuit Bar

For fast-casual food with a Southern flair, Dallas residents have been flocking to The Biscuit Bar since their first storefront opened in 2018. The Biscuit Bar serves the Dallas area from three locations—The Boardwalk at Granite Park, Deep Ellum, and University Park—and students from pre-K to twelfth grade will be served a free lunch to-go. Those in a position to give can sponsor a free lunch for as little as $3, and sponsorships can be made through online purchases or in-store. You can also enjoy Nashville hot fried chicken on a southern biscuit or a hot chocolate biscuit by ordering to-go online or at any of their three locations. 

Terry Black’s Barbecue 

Dallas wouldn’t be the same without old-fashioned Texas barbecue, and Terry Black’s Barbecue blends traditional barbecue techniques with new flair. Although they have moved to curbside service only in lieu of dining in their Main Street hall, this restaurant continues to cater to our community. During March, Terry Black’s Barbecue gave 30% off to all medical workers, first responders, and essential service providers. This family-owned and operated business understands the importance of a good meal with good people, and their discount has made dinnertime easier for Dallas’ essential workers. Classic menu items such as sliced brisket, savory baked potato salad, and juicy pork ribs are available for curbside to-go orders, as well as a selection of frozen meats to keep stocked at home. If you want to take home their incredible barbecue, be sure to order twenty-four hours in advance so that your food will be ready when you are. 

Main at South Side

Perhaps during this time more than ever, art and music are integral parts of society that bring us closer together, no matter how far apart we are. Although their regularly scheduled events have been postponed due to gathering restrictions, this iconic Fort Worth music venue continues to provide entertainment to the public. Main at South Side will be live streaming performances, which can be watched on the venue’s YouTube channel, where they have a dedicated Social Distancing Concert Series playlist. Streams range from fifteen minutes to nearly two hours and include musicians such as Taylor Craig Mills, The Unlikely Candidates, and Danni & Kris. Connect with Main at South Side to support local and traveling artists, and keep an eye out on their events calendar for concerts once the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. 

Gypsy Rose Cosmetics

Our frontline healthcare workers have seen the brute of this pandemic’s force firsthand.
