The 5 trends to look for in the coming year (NKBA)
More Personality
The cookie cutter kitchen has turned a corner and people are looking for a design that is uniquely them.
Individualized settings, controls and tech solutions.
The move towards appliances that are started with an app so you can turn on your oven on the way home and programmable lighting that will preset for various times of the day. Cabinets with custom design and improved storage enhancements that can be configured to the way they live.
Specialized Sinks
Double sinks and farm sinks are out and in come the sinks with built in cutting boards, strainers and drying racks. More than half of new sink orders are embracing new colors, ceramic finishes and having two sinks in the kitchen.
Innovations for living in place
Thinking about aging in place, cabinetry and islands will be customized for all ages. Additionally homeowners are installing nighttime lighting such as toe kick lighting, for safety. Also motion sensored lighting, voice activation and motorized shades are part of this trend.
Customized Color
Another way designers are personalizing for clients is through color. As we shift away from the white and gray kitchens, designers are highlighting vertical surfaces such as backsplashes and using paint and wallpaper to make a statement. And as the island is moving towards becoming the focal point they are often painted in a contrasting color.
